No, Windows is not a virus. Here's what viruses do:

1.They replicate quickly - okay, Windows does that.

2.Viruses use up valuable system resources, slowing down the system as they do so - okay, Windows does that.

3.Viruses will, from time to time, trash your hard disk - okay, Windows does that too.

4.Viruses are usually carried, unknown to the user, along with valuable programs and systems. - Sigh.. Windows does that, too.

5.Viruses will occasionally make the user suspect their system is too slow (see 2) and the user will buy new hardware. - Yup, Windows does that, too.

Until now it seems Windows is a virus but there are fundamental differences: Viruses are well supported by their authors, are running on most systems, their program code is fast, compact and efficient and they tend to become more sophisticated as they mature.

So Windows is not a virus.

It's a bug.

Will comment later and longer re: your return to (hopefully) regularly scheduled vblogging. But about the future invite to poker, if these guys are any sort of poker players you can bet the last dollar of you winnings you haven't spent that you will be invited back. These guys want a chance to win their money back and they will get it. As a long-standing member of a first-of-the-month poker game I assure you that anyone enjoying beginner's luck will be guaranteed a chance to prove that the first time was a fluke. If these guys have any integrity to the game of poker at all, you will be, if necessary, dragged screaming and hollering to the next game. If not, then you may flaunt your fortune, point out that their fly is open, and mock them when they look. And if not, you are certainly invited to our game to try your luck. It's all probably gone by now.
